Other moments are less than pleasant, with changing difficulty and sudden storms, mirroring our fragile existence and troubles. We can only truly prepare ourselves for all the possible hazards and hardships of the journey through trust in God. All other precautions avail us nothing in comparison. I'm still unsure of exactly what I believe, but experiencing Croagh Patrick inspired me and filled me with peace. I can feel the spirit of everyone who's made the climb before me, as if we're all here at once, and all connected. I came to Ireland in hopes of finding true solitude and quiet, and Croagh Patrick has more than filled that need. I feel a sense of rest here, as if something outside of me, bigger than me, is keeping me safe. The views from the peak are a reminder of life’s vastness and the opportunities that lie beyond the horizon, waiting for us to take that leap of chance. Good health became more than a wish; it felt like a responsibility—to care for ourselves, for one another, and for the Earth that holds us all. And as the wind carried prayers whispered by generations before, it felt like a collective yearning for peace on Earth, a dream we still hold dear, no matter how distant it may sometimes seem. It is said to be the mountain which St. Patrick himself climbed up, and pilgrims have been hiking up its hillside ever since. Those who are feeling especially penitential will climb the mountain barefoot, and apparently we had a contrite batch of students, as at least a third of the group climbed up the hill sans footwear. In all seriousness, it was beautiful to watch them experience the physical and spiritual journey of the mountain. We made frequent stops for short reflections and prayers, and each time we paused, we were reminded of how blessed we are to live on this beautiful Earth. Community & Spiritual Connection 20250323_183614.heic 1/8 Season of Creation 2026 September 1st - October 4th Theme "Living water" IMMERSION IN LIVING WATER: Ezekiel 47:9,12 Westport Parish ECO - Congregation “Future generations will never forgive us if we miss the opportunity to protect our common home. We have inherited a garden; we must not leave a desert for our children.” Joint statement from Pope Francis, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop Justin Welby of Canterbury. Theme: “Living Water” This year’s theme, “Living Water”, explores Ezekiel 47:9 and 12 as a powerful biblical vision of hope and ecological healing. Set amid exile and loss, the image of living water flowing from God’s sanctuary reveals divine healing that renews land, water, biodiversity, and human responsibility towards the whole creation. “ Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live. […] Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing.” (Ezek 47:9,12) Learn More Discover the schools in our parish — visit our new Schools Listing for details on local primary and post-primary schools. our SCHOOLS Ireland West Camino 2026 Ireland West Camino 2026 From Downpatrick August 27th reaching the summit of Croagh Patrick September 24th. 588km by road and trail!
